Onward — Privacy

Onward does not collect your data.

What you write

Your vow, your daily step, your obstacles, your reflections and your letters are encrypted on your phone. The key is kept in your phone's Keychain. Neither your words nor the key is ever sent to us or to anyone.

Your walk

The days you walk and the places you reach are kept on your phone.

What Onward does not have

No account. No server. No analytics. No advertising. No third-party code that collects anything. Nothing is shared with anyone.

Purchases

Purchases are handled by Apple. We never see your payment details, your name or your Apple ID.

Reminders and widgets

The daily reminder is scheduled on your phone. If you write your own reminder words, they appear on your lock screen. Widgets show your walking day and the path, never your writing.

What leaves your phone, and only when you choose

If you export your journey or keep your vow page, it goes only where you send it. Onward adds a page to Photos only when you ask it to.

Backups and a new phone

Your phone's own backup (iCloud Backup, or an encrypted backup on your computer) includes Onward's records and the key, sealed, as it does for every app. A new phone set up from that backup, or with Quick Start, can read what you wrote. A phone set up as new starts empty: Onward keeps no copy anywhere else.

Deleting

If you delete Onward, everything it kept on your phone is deleted with it. There is nothing held anywhere else to delete.

Children

Onward is not for anyone under 13, and asks your age once before you begin.

Changes and contact

If this ever changes, this page will say so first, and the app will ask before anything leaves your phone.
